Stanly Community College (SCC) held its annual Military and University Transfer Fair on Thursday, October 25, 2018, on the Albemarle campus. Mrs. Leigh Stewart, SCC's Counselor for the School of Transfer, welcomed over 25 colleges, universities, and military branches from all over North Carolina to share their information with students. "We would like to thank the representatives that came out today to speak with our students about their educational programs. SCC currently has 951 students enrolled in the University Transfer Program, so this is a perfect opportunity for our students to look at all their options as they prepare to move forward with matriculation," said Mrs. Stewart.
SCC's University Transfer (UT) Program consists of the Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science (AS) degrees. SCC's UT program offers freshman and sophomore-level general education credits, which are fully transferable into the North Carolina University system.
"Our AA and AS degrees are very economical, student-friendly alternatives to spending considerable money at the universities," explained Tammi McIlwaine, Associate Vice President for the School of Transfer and Business. "For example, according to a report from the CollegeCalc.org (www.collegecalc.org), a student's tuition (NC resident) for the 2016-2017 academic year at Wingate University is approximately $29,170, at Pfeiffer it's $28,000, and at UNCC it's $3,737; but at Stanly Community College it's $2,432. More and more individuals are turning to their local community colleges to reduce their educational debt."
