April 16th marks a special day in the lives of auctioneers – “National Auctioneers Day.” This day is recognized by auctioneers to celebrate one of the history’s oldest professions. The last bastion of the competitive free enterprise system, auctions and the age-old profession auctioneering continues to grow every year. Auctions are one of the most effective and efficient means of turning assets into cash quickly. Most importantly, consumers regularly come back to auctions because they are fun and entertaining.
This year, Stanly Community College’s Small Business Center and Carolina Auction Academy, teamed-up to celebrate Auctioneers as Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs by providing free seminars, prizes and refreshments. The first seminar, The 3D’s of Auctioneering, featured speakers Brandon Garrison and David Ritzheimer, NC Wildlife Enforcement Officers; Tim Mabe and Cathy Hunter with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Heather Little of Custom Accounting, a Stanly County Small Business owner. The second seminar, Technology is Here—Get Over It!, was presented by guest speakers David Bailey, a Carolina Auction Academy graduate and Project Manager for Wells Fargo. Both seminars gave Auctioneers a chance to earn his/her Continuing Education Credits.
Executive Director Charlie Diehl and Attorney Neil Yarborough, both of the NC Auctioneer Licensing Board, were present to support the events and participate in the classes. Carolina Auction Academy is one of only three accredited schools in NC and the next class begins in August.
