Stanly Community College (SCC) recently completed its first-ever Personal Property Appraiser class with 12 graduates. Class topics included rules and regulations, determining fair market value, diminished value, insurance, bankruptcy, ethics, report writing, and record keeping, and much more. Property categories included photography, art, classic cars, estates and more.
Students participated in a field trip to Chapel Road Homestead Antiques to gain a greater understanding of the industry and to learn first-hand from a valuable resource.
A project was assigned to provide hands-on experience as students had to appraise, support and report on a specific item. Projects were critiqued by instructors and fellow classmates. A final exam was given at the end of the class.
“We are so thrilled with the success of our Personal Property Appraiser class,” stated Instructor Betty O'Neal. “We believe there could be a great deal of synergy with this class and our Carolina Auction Academy. We did have several CAA graduates join the class and we’re getting several requests for a June class.”
