Students, family, and friends gathered at the annual Cosmetology Hair Show at Stanly Community College (SCC) on Thursday, April 25, 2019 to watch Cosmetology students display their talents. The show featured the latest trends and techniques in prom and special occasion hairstyles and make-up, done exclusively by students. Nearly fifty models dressed-up in their Sunday best and had their hair and make-up done for this fun-filled event.

Dr. John Enamait, SCC President, gave opening remarks and thanked everyone for coming to the show to support the students. Michael Sperling, Associate Dean, Business and Career Technology, introduced the students and models throughout the show. SCC Cosmetology instructors David Smith, Linda Hatley, Kimberly Herrin, Tammy Coble and Gena Trogdon, worked together to guide, support, and prepare the students for their big event.

Linda Hatley, Cosmetology Instructor and coordinator for the show, noted, “We want to thank everyone who helped make the Hair Show a success. What a unique opportunity for our students to learn and engage in a comfortable environment while putting the skills they learned into work.”

The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the cosmetology industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment that enables students to develop manipulative skills.

Coursework includes instruction in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multicultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics. Graduates should qualify to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. Upon successfully passing the State Board exam, graduates will be issued a license. Employment is available in beauty salons and related businesses.
