The Stanly Community College (SCC) Welding Lab recently held a demonstration of the new Miller® Live Arc™ Welding Performance Management System. This advanced trainer features live arc welding simulations and delivers immediate feedback to improve performance. Students attempted to earn high scores while performing welding assignments similar to a reality-based environment and wearing all the required safety gear.
This simulator features a Miller-exclusive SmartGun with motion-tracking technology using built-in LEDs which are tracked by the system's cameras. A post-weld feedback screen evaluates the performance, showing the operator which skills may need additional training. Instructors have the ability to design personalized assignments with technique parameters while the system stores the students' score history to track improved performance over time.
The Live Arc™ simulator was in North Carolina for only three days so SCC was very fortunate for students and instructors to be able to experience such an advanced manufacturing training tool. Many other community colleges were invited to attend the demonstration.
Registration for Welding classes start on November 7th for the January term. For more information on the Welding Technology program at SCC, please contact William Beaver at 704-991-0383.
