SCC Invites You to Study Abroad in Ireland

Stanly Community College (SCC) would like to invite the community to join them on their Study Abroad trip to Ireland from June 20-30, 2016. SCC’s cultural adventure is a partnership between Stanly Community College and the Institute of Study Abroad Ireland. This extraordinary opportunity will be based in Donegal Adventure Centre in Bundoran, County Donegal, for the majority of the trip.

Bundoran is a small surfing town, a popular holiday resort since the 18th century, and a perfect base to explore the West and North of Ireland. The experience will be educational and the adventures will be off the beaten track and uniquely Irish.

Activities at a glance include: Irish history and culture sessions, Celtic storytelling and Irish theatre, Gaelic language and music session, surfing, and Gaelic sports. Excursions include: Hill of Tara, Ballyshannon Heritage Town, Drumcliffe, Donegal Castle, Glencar Waterfall, Parke’s Castle, Lake Isle of Innisfree, Derry City—Northern Ireland, Knocknarea Mountain, and Newgrange. In Dublin, sites include Kilmainham Jail and the National Museum.

This cultural experience is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Credit-seeking participants (students) will register for HUM 180 International Cultural Exploration. All other participants will register for a continuing education course. Participants must be 18 years old by departure or be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The trip will cost $2,700 and includes: tuition, airfare, accommodations, excursions and activities, and breakfast and dinner most days. Participants will cover additional costs, including passport application fees and lunch each day.

An information session will be held on Wednesday, October 21st at noon, in the Snyder Building, Room 221, on the Albemarle campus. A special Irish culture presentation will be held on Thursday, October 29th at 1:00 p.m., in the Kelley Building, Dennis Auditorium. The guest speaker will be Dr. Niamh Hamill, Director of the Institute of Study Abroad Ireland. Both events are free to attend.
