Stanly Community College (SCC) will be launching a new and exciting Associate in Applied Science Degree in Agribusiness Technology, beginning fall 2016. Michael Sperling, SCC's Associate Dean of Business & Career Technology, noted, "Wendell Beery (the prophet of rural America, NY Times) states that, 'Eating is an agricultural act.' As the world's population increases, the demand for better agricultural business practices increase. Agribusiness is a career pathway with unlimited growth opportunity."
The curriculum is designed to provide the entrepreneurial and technical skills necessary to manage a profitable, environmentally sound, community-based small farm or agricultural business. The objective is the development of a workforce knowledgeable in sustainable agriculture practices. Graduates should qualify for a variety of jobs in agricultural businesses such as equipment, feed, and agricultural supply sales; store management; farm operations; wholesale and retail produce management; nursery operations; and environmental and agricultural education.
The new program also offers a certificate and diploma option and tuition-waived courses for high school juniors and seniors in the Career & College Promise pathway.
Fall registration for the Agribusiness Technology degree will begin on April 4, 2016. We encourage those interested in the program to contact Michael Sperling at (704) 991-0357 or email@example.com, or Eagle's 1-Stop at (704) 991-0123 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
