SCC Launching New Information Technology Business Support Degree This Fall

Stanly Community College (SCC) will be launching a new and exciting Associate in Applied Science Degree in Information Technology (IT) Business Support beginning August 2016. The courses will be taught seated and/or totally online.

Coursework will develop a student's ability to communicate complex technical issues related to computer hardware and software in a manner that computer users can understand. Coursework includes computer operations and terminology, Microsoft applications, operating systems, database, networking, security, and technical support.

Employment can be found in entry-level positions with businesses, educational systems, and governmental agencies that rely on computer systems to manage information, whether working at a desk or in an IT position. This is a flexible curriculum that can be customized to meet the community's needs for information technology.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2016-17 Edition, "Employment of computer support specialists is projected to grow 12 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. More support services will be needed as organizations upgrade their computer equipment and software."
