Albemarle, NC – Lee Pickler has been selected as the 2020 Business Person of the Year by the Stanly Community College (SCC) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter. Mr. Pickler is a former PBL member and the President and Workforce Solutions Expert of ScanOnline, an Enterprise Wireless and Mobility Solutions company based in Locust, NC.

Mr. Pickler received his award during a recent Stanly County Board of Commissioners meeting. Additionally, the Commissioners signed a Proclamation adding Stanly County to National Future Business Leaders of America-PBL Month commemorations around the country. Future Business Leaders of America and the collegiate level Phi Beta Lambda are student organizations that promote leadership development, business awareness, career preparation, and professionalism.

West Stanly High School has the county’s only active FBLA chapter. Both Pfeiffer University and Stanly Community College have active PBL chapters, with both producing state winners that went on to represent North Carolina at the 2019 national competitions in San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Pickler graduated from Stanly Community College with a degree in Computer Programming. In 1986, he was selected as the “Mr. SCC Leadership Competition” winner. That year he was also one of the five finalists in the state PBL Future Business Executive event. Mr. Pickler has remained active in PBL activities by serving as a judge for competitions at state conferences and sponsoring one of the Awards Program events.

A previous “SCC Alumnus of the Year Award” recipient, he has continued being involved at SCC by providing internships, speaking at student meetings, and serving on the College’s Foundation Board of Directors, this year concluding a two-year term as chair.

To appreciate his service as SCC Foundation Board Chair and in recognition of his Business Person of the Year selection, Stanly Community College is sponsoring the state PBL Small Business Plan in his name.

The national Business Person of the Year program began in 1980. SCC’s was one of the initial participating chapters, honoring Ms. Nell Poplin, owner of Lee James Clothing Store; last year’s honoree was Ms. Nancee Bowers, owner of Albemarle Nutrition.

From those selected by chapters throughout the state, a state Business Person of the Year will be announced at the North Carolina PBL State Leadership Conference in April.
