Stanly Community College (SCC) announced the winners of the annual student art show during the opening reception held on March 15, at the Learning Resources Center (LRC). Every year, students are encouraged to showcase their creative artwork with other artists and viewers.
Jeremy Hardy, a former student of the Advertising and Graphic Design program, was selected to judge the artwork on display. Jeremy's selections were heavily influenced by what he felt was story-presented in the work and technique. Students from different programs of study participated in this year's show displaying their skills in a variety of media ranging from pencil, charcoal, acrylics, photography, photo-editing, and much more.
The show's first place winner is a student taking the Digital Photography Certificate Program. "I am very proud of our photography students and the work they produce," noted Cindi Poole, SCC's Photography Instructor. An early college student won second place for her mixed media sketch and an advertising and graphic design student won third place for his edited photo submission. "I was very happy to see the participation from all avenues of student life here at SCC," stated Josh Gooch, Program Head of Advertising and Graphic Design.
The 2016 winners included: 1st place-"Working Hands" by Pat Pope (photography), 2nd place—"Realistic Snake" by Angel DeAugustine (mixed media) and 3rd Place—"Kandice the Explorer" by Jerry Thao (composite photograph). Honorable Mentions included: "Wing Tips" by Amy Allen (photography), "Tulip Tree" by Carl Dickinson (photography) and "Lilly of the Water" by Page Wilhelm (oil pastel).
SCC would like to thank the LRC staff for hosting the show and providing the refreshments, and the Student Government Association (SGA) for providing the award ribbons.
