SCC Receives Grant to Support Veterans

Wells Fargo has awarded Stanly Community College (SCC) a $7,500 grant to support the Veterans program at the College. This project will provide six annual scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to be awarded to veteran students. Annual scholarships assist students with the costs of tuition, fees, books, supplies, and living expenses while attending college.

The extra funds from this grant will be used to outfit the Albemarle Campus Veterans Nook with laptop computers. The Veterans Nook is a veterans-only area that offers a quiet place to study or to relax and includes a TV, and a microwave. The laptops will support veteran students who may not have access to technology at home but might require internet access for online courses.

SCC has been named a Top Military-Friendly School in the annual "Guide to Military Friendly Schools" on the website http://www.militaryfriendly.com.

“For the first time in College history, this grant allows SCC to award veteran-specific scholarships as an effort to support a group of students that we care deeply about, and we are so grateful for Wells Fargo’s support in the area of veterans’ education,” stated Christy Bogle, SCC Foundation Director. “This investment will provide financial assistance for student veterans to attend school and outfit our Veterans Nook with laptops to offer further support to our veteran students.”

“Wells Fargo is proud to be a part of this program at Stanly Community College supporting veterans,” said Greg Crawford, a senior Business Banking relationship manager at Wells Fargo. “Funding scholarships for real heroes in our local community connects directly with our vision and values. At Wells Fargo, we share the belief that supporting education is one of the most important investments we can make in our country’s future.”
