SCC Students Complete Electrical Lineworker Training

Students at Stanly Community College (SCC) have completed their eight-week Electrical Lineworker Training Program. A graduation ceremony was held in the Dennis Auditorium, Kelley Building, on the Albemarle Campus on July 23, 2019.

Jeff Parsons, Associate Vice President, School of Advanced Manufacturing, Industry, Technology and Trades, began the ceremony and welcomed the students, faculty, and guests. Devin Baucom, Dean of Advanced Manufacturing, Industry, and Trades, as well as Ricky Carpenter, Electrical Lineworker Instructor, both spoke to the graduates with words of motivation and inspiration.

Industry leaders were able to join the graduation ceremony. Jon Evans, who manages the Lineworker Training Program at Duke Energy, spoke to the students on the importance of safety. Dana Chaney, Human Resources Director, City of Albemarle, announced that graduate Dallas Springer has been offered a position with the City of Albemarle. Additionally, Devin Baucom awarded the Occupational Extension Scholarship to graduate Terence Smith Jr. This new scholarship is funded by the Stanly County Managers Association and awarded to a student enrolled in an Occupational Extension class (continuing education)

The Electrical Lineworker program teaches students basic elements of electricity, overhead pole and electrical line construction, safety codes and applications, electric power system, workzone flagger, as well as transformer and meter installations. In addition, course topics include OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety, CPR/First Aid Training, and the Workzone Flagger License. On successful completion of the program, students will possess the necessary skills for employment in various electrical utility industries.
