Thank you for your continued patience as we deal with COVID-19. SCC’s faculty and staff and students have been tremendously resilient during this time. Overall, college operations have continued quite well.
Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 141 (https://files.nc.gov/governor/documents/files/EO141-Phase-2.pdf) did announce Phase II of the three phase plan to reopen NC. The guidelines in Phase II are very similar to those found in Phase I, however.
In considering how SCC responds to Phase II, many factors must be considered. Obviously, the safety and security of all is paramount. Additionally, the restrictions on gatherings inside must be weighed against the ability to provide effective instruction without distraction. The circumstances facing us now are very similar to those facing us when the decision was made to transition online. A primary difference is that people have been quarantined for some time now and are ready to resume some sense of normalcy.
Given these factors, I have decided that Stanly Community College will continue its current operational status and not make any changes to our current environment. We will not be adding any face-to-face classes at this time. Faculty and staff will continue to perform their duties remotely.
I regret making such an announcement. I, like you, am ready to see students back on campus and see our faculty in action. And we will see students back on campus and see our faculty in action – it’ll just have to wait longer than we were hoping.
More information regarding the graduation plan will be communicated soon.
I hope each of you and your families are well. If there is anything that I or SCC can do for you, please let me know.John D. Enamait, Ph.D.
