Yes, that’s right the new 2017-2018 is here and earlier than ever! No more waiting until after January 1st to complete the 2017-18 FAFSA as the Dept. of Education has moved up the availability of the FAFSA to October 1st.
WHY: To allow students enough time to compare financial aid packages between schools before the school year begins in August, 2017.
HOW: FAFSA has a new tweak that allows students to use 2015 tax data and as a result students and parents should be able to use the data retrieval tool (linking to IRS) and import required tax information into the FAFSA.
**Don’t forget about the FSA User ID and password which is needed to sign the FAFSA. If you don’t have one, please complete the process at https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm BEFORE completing the FAFSA at https://fafsa.ed.gov/.
Have any questions? If so, contact the Stanly Community College Financial Aid Office at 704-991-0302 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. The Dept. of Education’s website, www.studentaid.ed.gov, also provides valuable resources.
