The Activity Professional – Adult Care course is designed to train the student who desires to become an activities assistant, coordinator, or director in long-term healthcare or assisted living facilities. Activity directors for adult care homes are required by the North Carolina Division of Health Services Regulation to complete this course prior to or within six months of employment. This course consists of sixty classroom hours and twenty-five clinical hours in an approved facility. This course is the first in a series of courses that lead to national certification as an activity professional.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and can be completed online or in person.
- Text is required and will be available in the SCC Bookstore during semesters when this course is offered.
- For clinical clearance, a criminal background check and medical form will be required. Some clinical sites require a drug screen. Criminal background check and drug screen (if required) should not be purchased before the class start.
- High school diploma or GED or evaluated non-US high school diploma
and reading assessment at the 10th grade reading level or above
- Driver’s license or state ID
