Nurse Aide Level I

DESCRIPTION:

This course prepares graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills such as checking vital signs, bed-making, bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulating, and transferring. The course consists of theory, lab, and clinical hours in a long-term care facility. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the graduate will receive a Certificate of Completion and be eligible to register for the NNAAP State Exam through NACES. The cost of the exam is $120. Visit http://www.pearsonvue.com for further information on the exam. Upon passing the state exam, the candidate will be eligible to be listed on the North Carolina Nursing Assistant I Registry.

REQUIREMENTS:

Students must provide a valid photo ID, social security card, US high school diploma or GED or transcripts with graduation date, and proof of up-to-date immunizations (2 MMR'S, 2 VARICELLA, HEPATITIS B SERIES, TETANUS WITHIN LAST 10 YEARS, NEGATIVE TB SKIN TEST WITHIN LAST 9 MONTHS--ALL IMMUNIZATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED BUT THE TB SKIN TEST IS MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR PROCEEDING TO CLINICAL). Students are responsible for purchasing uniforms for clinical (WHITE TOP AND BLACK PANTS), textbook (3 textbooks for approximately $95-100 in bookstore), and criminal background check (40-$50---MUST BE A MONEY ORDER).  DO NOT PURCHASE MONEY ORDERS UNTIL AFTER CLASS HAS STARTED!!!

STUDENTS MUST HAVE GED/DIPLOMA OR BE DUAL ENROLLED IN ADULT HIGH SCHOOL/GED PROGRAM AT SCC OR IN PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL AND 16.5 YEARS OR OLDER WITH A DUAL ENROLLMENT FORM COMPLETED TO TAKE CLASS!!

There is an orientation held before classes begin. 

Listed below are course syllabus, handbook, and checklist for the class. These forms are able to be downloaded and printed for you to bring to orientation.

Classes meet 2 days a week either Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday/Thursday for 16 weeks in August and January and 4 days a week Monday thru Thursday for 8 weeks in May. We offer classes at the Locust and Albemarle campuses. We offer morning classes (8:45a-2:15p) and evening (3:45p-9:15p). CLASSES ARE OFFERED IN JANUARY, AUGUST, AND MAY.

Must have a minimum of 8 students registered to hold class!!! If class is cancelled due to low enrollment those registered will be notified via their Stanly Community College e-mail. If class is cancelled a full refund will be processed and mailed to you from the business office.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

Registration fee for the class is $203.50 and is due in full at the time of registration.
