Nurse Aide Level I

DESCRIPTION:

This course prepares graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills such as checking vital signs, bed-making, bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulating, and transferring. The course consists of theory, lab, and clinical hours in a long-term care facility. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the graduate will receive a Certificate of Completion and be eligible to register for the NNAAP State Exam through NACES. The cost of the exam is $101. Visit http://www.pearsonvue.com for further information on the exam. Upon passing the state exam, the candidate will be eligible to be listed on the North Carolina Nursing Assistant I Registry.

REQUIREMENTS:

In addition to GED/diploma, students must present 1 of the following for entry into the class: (1) Proof of completion of ENG 111/113 (2) Bachelor's degree (3) TABE reading test results passed at 11th grade level or higher.

Students must provide a valid photo ID, social security card, US high school diploma or GED or transcripts with graduation date, and proof of up-to-date immunizations (2 MMR'S, 2 VARICELLA, HEPATITIS B SERIES, TETANUS WITHIN LAST 10 YEARS, NEGATIVE TB SKIN TEST WITHIN LAST 9 MONTHS). Students are responsible for purchasing uniforms for clinical (WHITE TOP AND BLACK PANTS), ID badge for $2 (PURCHASED AT EAGLE'S ONE STOP), textbook (3 textbooks for approximately $95-100 in bookstore), and criminal background check ($40-$50---MUST BE A MONEY ORDER).  DO NOT PURCHASE MONEY ORDERS UNTIL AFTER CLASS HAS STARTED!!!

There is an orientation held before classes begin. 

Listed below are course syllabus, handbook, and checklist for the class. These forms are able to be downloaded and printed for you to bring to orientation.

Class meets Monday thru Thursday for 8 weeks. Morning (8:45-2:15p) and evening (3:45-9:15pm) sessions are available. Classes offered at Albemarle and Crutchfield locations. CLASSES ARE OFFERED IN AUGUST, OCTOBER, JANUARY, MARCH, AND MAY.

Must have a minimum of 7 students registered to hold class!!! If class is cancelled due to low enrollment those registered will be notified via their Stanly Community College e-mail (listed below is information on how to access the e-mail account). If class is cancelled a full refund will be processed and mailed to you from the business office.
