Psychiatric Technician

DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to prepare individuals with the knowledge & skills needed to provide safe, therapeutic patient care to individuals who have mental health/behavioral needs in an effective and ethical manner.  Course work includes lecture, clinical instruction, isolated clinical experiences, module assignments, module tests, and class projects, delivered through a variety of learning modalities. Successful completion of this instruction will prepare students for Level 1 American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) certification exam AND Entry level positions for Psychiatric Aides, Mental Healthcare Technicians and Healthcare Techs/CNAs whose primary patient population has special mental health/behavioral needs.  Students will also receive QPR (Suicide Intervention) & CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification during this course.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

US high school diploma or GED

Current NC Nurse Aide 1 Registry Listing

Up-to-date immunizations: 2 MMR'S, 2 Varicella, Hepatitis B Series, Tetanus w/in last 10 years, Negative 2 Step TB within last 12 months

Clinical Uniform - Black Tops & Black Pants

SCC Student ID badge - $2

Textbooks - Approx. $100.00

Drug Screen (Approx. $35.00) & Criminal background check (Approx. $45-55) – Purchased through SCC vendor

Certification Exam - Approx. $140.00

 

OTHER INFORMATION:

Must have a minimum of 8 students registered to hold class!!! If class is cancelled due to low enrollment those registered will be notified via their Stanly Community College e-mail (listed below is information on how to access the e-mail account). If class is cancelled a full refund will be processed and mailed to you from the business office.
