Advanced Digital Photography

Course Description: Advanced Digital Photography will provide an excelled understanding of using the camera’s manual settings by reviewing the key elements of the Introduction to Digital Photography class. Students will have weekly assignments, discussed in class, that help take their pictures to the professional level. Additionally, each student will be able to choose an editing software that works best for them and how to shoot and edit RAW files. Camera required.

Pre-requisite: Introduction to Digital Photography

Requirements: Digital SLR camera

Class meetings: There will be 8 class meetings and the classes meet 3 hours each for a total of 24 hours. Instructor may schedule class for field trips.

Course Outline:

  • Photography basic review
  • Photoshop tips and basics
  • Environmental Portrait assignment
  • Discuss shooting feature photos and waiting for the moment
  • Discuss editing software
  • Discuss shooting motion and sporting events
  • Discuss lighting techniques
  • Share camera bag and lighting equipment with class
  • Discuss photo story ideas
  • Discuss Ethics of Photography
  • Work on a photo story layout in Photoshop

Course Text: No textbook required

Grading: Students will receive a “S” Satisfactory if they attend 80% of the total course hours and meet course requirements as established by instructor or a “U” Unsatisfactory if are absent in excess of 20% of total course hours or fail to meet course requirements as established by instructor.
