Dr. Elizabeth Lackey (part-time), 704.991.0359, elackey1719@stanly.edu

Dr. Elizabeth Lackey

I was born and raised in North Carolina. I have 15+ years working in higher education and over 10 years working in North Carolina public universities. Seven of those years were spent working in student specialist / administrative positions at UNC Charlotte. The reminder of my time in higher education has been teaching as faculty in the School of Health and Human Sciences and the Lloyd International Honors College at UNC Greensboro.

I earned an AA from Central Piedmont Community College, a BA from UNC Charlotte, MA from UNC Greensboro and a Ph.D. from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Additionally, I hold a Certificate in Project Management from NC State. In addition to teaching, I have experience in advising, coaching and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students. I am most suited to provide mentoring, guidance and support for students transferring to 4-year universities. I am looking forward to helping you in your chosen career path.

SCC University Transfer Counselor (career or personal counseling):

Leigh Stewart, lstewart8341@stanly.edu, 704.991.0236, SB 220

Leigh Stewart

Counselor for School of Transfer and College and Career Readiness

I am one of the counselors on campus. I provide personal, academic, and career counseling services. Additionally, I assist students with the university transfer process. Ideally, I assist students in identifying career and life goals through a number of career exploration techniques early on in his or her time here at SCC. In doing so, I can work collaboratively with the student and the Success Coaches in identifying the correct transfer courses that align well with the student’s intended major at the appropriate university.

Life as a college student can include stressors of many kinds. I’m available to provide a safe space to discuss these barriers, assist with identifying healthy coping strategies, and provide appropriate referrals as needed.

As a proud graduate of an NC Community College and university transfer student, I understand the unique challenges students can face on the journey. Please let me know how I can support you in reaching your goals:

Location: Snyder Building, Room 220

 University Transfer Faculty Mentors

Please note: Many of our mentors are 9-month faculty and will not be available in the summer months. Additionally, when the college is closed [i.e. December break] mentors may not be immediately available. Personnel changes may facilitate mentor changes. Students may call Mrs. Susy Shue at 704.991.0176 (SB 202) to locate a mentor who is on duty.

Mentors will help you determine what careers/majors/universities interest you and fit with your skills, interests, and life circumstances.   While all mentors can help you, generally speaking, it's advisable to talk with mentors who have experience in your main area of focus (STEM/health, humanities, social sciences, education, business, etc.).
