Chris McDaniel

Chris McDaniel | Criminal Justice and Accounting Graduate | 1991 & 1993, respectively

Officer, Stanfield Police Department

“Starting my collegiate education at Stanly Community College was an excellent decision as it provided me with the opportunity to obtain my education affordably while simultaneously being able to work and earn an income. As it turns out, my time at SCC evolved from just being about an affordable education thanks to Mr. Dan Hazlett. Through Mr. Hazlett's inspiration and my involvement with Phi Beta Lambda, I developed the confidence to excel beyond my expectations to obtain both state and national recognition. This led to a lifelong association with the College and the Phi Beta Lambda chapter where I am privileged to have been able to contribute to similar experiences for other students over the years. Upon the foundation started at SCC I have built a successful and rewarding law enforcement career and now things have come full circle as I am proud to return to Stanly as an instructor.”

Garrett Starnes

Garrett Starnes | Biomedical Equipment Technology | 2007

MRI Service Engineer, Charlotte

“I was able to obtain the education and credentials from SCC that enabled me to get my first BMET job in Greenville, SC. After about 5 years in the field, I was able to find a job back home in Charlotte. I've always considered getting my education at SCC a bargain! I now have a career, not just a job. I enjoy my work, and I'm compensated well. What more can a man ask for?”

Lori Aldrige

Lori Aldridge | Physical Therapy Technology | 1993

Director of Marketing and Sales, Trinity Oaks, Albemarle, NC

“My classes and career in Physical Therapy prepared me for a career 20 years later in marketing and sales. Looking back on SCC, I can remember my favorite teacher, Ms. Janie Hopkins, who showed genuine care for students and was very knowledgeable on clinical skills. I would definitely recommend SCC to others.”

Hunter Tucker

Hunter Tucker| Computer Engineering Technology | 2016

Tier-II Support Technician, International Automotive Components Group

“If you are going into the Computer Engineering or Networking field, the best advice that I can give is to buckle down and get your certifications out of the way. They will put you a step above all others when you enter into the job market. I am extremely grateful to have a career in a field that I enjoy and that I was able to go straight from the classroom to getting real-world experience. I thoroughly enjoy helping users with their issues and solving problems that occur with equipment.”

Ryan Hill

Ryan Hill | Industrial Systems Technology | 2016

Assembly Machine Operator, Stanley Engineered Fastening

“I've always liked working with my hands and fixing things, so being able to learn welding, machining, HVAC repair, along with some other trades, certainly gave me plenty of options after graduating. SCC gives you all the tools you need to be successful, but it was my job to take those tools and apply them to my studies. You have to put in the effort to excel."

Valerie Butler

Valerie Butler | Nursing | 2014

Critical Care Nurse, Carolinas Medical Center-University

“I never thought that things would happen so quickly, as far as being accepted into SCC’s Nursing Program. I’ve always wanted to become a nurse. My whole life I’ve gravitated toward things that entail helping others—that’s what fulfills me. I absolutely love helping others in need, especially the less fortunate.”

Tana Isenhour

Tana Isenhour | Early Childhood Education | 2008

Director of Education, Goddard School, Charlotte, NC

“Watching teachers grow in their career is fulfilling. But watching a child who starts in the infant room evolve five years later when they discover they can read is just remarkable especially the look on their faces when they realize, "I really did read, didn't I."
