Get Cisco certified with classes at Stanly Community College’s IT Academy (SCC/ITA). We offer courses for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cyberops Associate certifications. SCC/ITA also offers the NDG Linux Essentials course.
SCC/ITA offers these courses under the umbrella of Continuing Education. These fast-paced courses are conducted online, and all course materials, assessments, and labs are available through our online learning management system. Students complete the required lab work using NetLabs, our online lab environment, and Cisco’s Packet Tracer, a lab simulation utility. Students have access to top of the line instruction and equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions
To start the process of taking a class in the IT Academy, you must first place your name on the wait list. This can be done by clicking on the following link and selecting the class you wish to take: https://itacademy.stanly.edu/waitlist.aspx
If you wish to take multiple classes, you must sign up on the wait list for each class you wish to take. Once your name is on the wait list, our registration technicians will register for the classes in a First In First Out manner (FIFO). We cannot guarantee you will be enrolled in the next set of classes at the IT Academy, but we will do everything we can to enroll you in a class as quickly as possible. Once you are enrolled, the registration technicians send an email with payment details, and it is your responsibility to pay for the class in a timely manner.
Each course varies from 8 to 12 weeks in length.
IT Academy Cisco courses run in either 8 week or 12 week formats. Dates are posted on the IT Academy website and sent via Constant Contact to students on the IT Academy mailing list.
Each course varies, but most of our courses will have at least one weekly meeting at a time to be determined by the instructor based on the students’ availability. These will be recorded if you are unable to attend. The rest of the material will be scheduled asynchronously. This will allow students to work in their own time, and at their own pace, which can be especially helpful for adult learners who need to balance their education with work and family responsibilities. It also provides a way for students who live far away from a school or university to participate in courses remotely. However, there will be quizzes, labs, and assignments with due dates to help you stay on track to finish the class.
Yes, all IT academy courses are offered in a fully online format.
The materials will be provided free of charge through the Cisco Networking Academy. The lab environment will be provided through Stanly CC’s Netlab+.

Cisco certification discounts are available following the following courses: CCNA-3 (for the CCNA), CyberOps Associate, and DevNet Associate.
You will receive a discount voucher code from Cisco (in Netacad) if you meet the qualifications. For each of these courses, you must score a 70% or higher on your first attempt on the Final Exam and be marked complete in the Cisco gradebook (this is done at the completion of the course if you have met all the course requirements).
The current Netacad Cisco exam discount is approximately 60% off retail price, as of May of 2023 (this is subject to change).
Once you have met the requirements and the course has concluded (you should receive an email from the Cisco Networking Academy when this happens), you will need to log in to Netacad, click on your profile in the top right-hand corner of the page and click on Discounts and then request the discount. You should receive an email directly from Netacad once you have been issued the voucher (and can then return to the Discounts page to find the voucher code). Your instructor will share step-by-step instructions for the process in the class.
