Comments:
This course begins on the first Thursday of October and ends
on
the fourth Friday of the same month. Lecture will be Thursdays
6:00PM-7:30PM at the Stanly
County Family YMCA. Practicum will be on Fridays 12:00PM-3:00PM
at the following field sites: Albemarle's Landfill (1st
Friday), Albemarle's Water Treatment Plant (2nd Friday), a
city
and/or county trash and/or recycling center (3rd Friday), the
Stanly County Health Department (4th Friday). The order of
field
labs may change, and lab classes may be replaced with visits
to
alternate sites. If a student must miss a class or two, that
is
fine; however, if you know that you will miss three classes,
please wait until next year to take the course so others can
do
so this year.
This course teaches an introduction to environmental services
provided in Stanly County. The course will emphasize the
importance of these institutions for individual and community
health and appreciation of the people who work in these fields
to provide us with such benefits. Lectures will summarize
topics
related to the field trip location for that week and will
highlight constructive strategies for asking questions that
help
us all gain a better understanding and consideration of related
concepts in our daily lives. Ten students are needed for the
class to run.
Supplies or Other Requirements: Driver's License and/or ability
to carpool to field sites.
