Graduation

Student Graduating Spring 2023

Time to turn the tassel...

Stanly Community College hosts commencement ceremonies at the end of the spring semester and all fall, spring and summer graduates for the academic year are invited to participate.

Graduation vs. Commencement.
What’s the difference?

Graduation - After meeting all requirements to earn a certificate, diploma or degree, students are eligible to graduate. Graduation is the certified completion of those requirements and is not a ceremony.

Commencement - Graduates are invited to participate in a formal Commencement Ceremony held in May of each year. This ceremony is open to all graduates from the current academic year and is held at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center in Albemarle.

Steps to Graduate

Verify Eligibility

  • Register for your final semester classes by contacting your Success Coach
  • Review your Program Evaluation in Self-Service.

Submit an Application

  • Complete the Application for Graduation under the Graduation Overview tab in Self-Service, regardless of ceremony participation, by the following deadlines:
    • Fall: November 15
    • Spring: April 15
    • Summer: July 1
  • Be aware that not meeting program requirements by the application semester's end will require you to reapply.
  • The graduation application verifies your mailing address and allows customization of your degree name. For example, if your last name changes due to getting married or if you prefer your middle name listed. Including this information on your graduation application ensures your degree is correct.
  • Once you submit your graduation application, expect a confirmation email to your student email. If you don't receive your confirmation email, contact Shannon Morales at smorales2972@stanly.edu
  • Summer graduates can join commencement, even if your degree is finished in July. Apply by April 15th to ensure inclusion in the commencement program; late applications will be listed as summer graduates.

Order Your Regalia

  • If you are participating in the graduation ceremony, order your cap, gown, and regalia from the SCC Bookstore. These costs are not covered by your Student Success fees and payment for graduation attire is your responsibility.
