Course Description:

This course introduces DC and AC electricity with an emphasis on circuit analysis, measurements, and operation of test equipment. Topics include DC and AC principles, circuit analysis laws and theorems, components, test equipment operation, circuit simulation, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret circuit schematics; design, construct, verify, and analyze DC/AC circuits; and properly use test equipment.

Course Objectives:

You’ll gain a workable understanding of the following concepts associated with electronics and telecommunications:

  • Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) Signal Noise and Distortion
  • Basic Electrical Circuits, including open/closed, shorts, grounds, wiring, etc
  • Potential Differences, Batteries, Float Voltage, Grounding, & Conductance
  • Basic Electrical Transmission and Waveforms Electrical Safety Practices
  • Electrical Conductors Basic and Intermediate Computer Functions, including using: Start Menu, Task Bar, Accessories/System Tools, My Computer, Control Panel, Device Manager, Network Neighborhood/My Network Places, windows, saving files, etc.
  • Electrical Flow, Power, Resistance, and Current Basic Computer Software functions
  • Electrostatic Discharge Digital Transmission, including advantages and disadvantages, Digital/Analog Conversion, Bit Frame, Bit Stream, T-carriers – hierarchy, overhead, framing, and data rates
  • Electrical Fuses Units of Measurement, including Binary System
  • Identify and use various electrical units such as Voltage, Current, Resistance, and Power
  • Read and interpret technical instructions, schematic diagrams, flowcharts, etc.
  • Impedance Basic Math (Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), positive and negative numbers

Course Description:

This online course prepares learners for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS)/Drone flight certification. Topics include flight theory, flight operations, and flight training utilizing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Remote Pilot - Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Study Guide, North Carolina Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operator Permit Knowledge Test Study Guide, and North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division of Aviation UAS flight standards & best practices. Learners will gain an introduction to commercial, government, and recreational drone applications. Coursework will highlight topics such as regulations, weather, airspace, human factors and sUAS performance. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test and NCDOT UAS Operator Permit.

Course Description:

This course introduces students to the study of preparing for the Federal Communications Commission General Radio Telephone License examination. Topics covered include test equipment used in the aviation industry, avionics circuits, troubleshooting techniques, design considerations of aviation transmitters and receivers, and design considerations of aviation antennas. Study includes Federal Communications Commission rules and a review of test taking techniques. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to test for the Radio/Telephone FCC GROL License.

Course Objectives:

  • Recite rules and regulations governing aircraft and maritime radiotelephone communications applicable to the FCC GROL exam
  • Describe electrical/electronic component and radio system principles, concepts, and theory
  • Differentiate equipment and systems used for aircraft navigation
  • Describe radio equipment installation, maintenance, repair practice and procedure
  • Define safety support systems and equipment used for marine navigation
  • Discuss applicable radio and radar equipment/system safety rules and procedures
