Albemarle, NC – Stanly Community College has been celebrating its golden anniversary for almost a year now, but it’s the community-wide finale on Saturday, July 16 from 2 until 9 p.m. that has everyone buzzing with excitement.

A day-long music festival featuring Chris Marks Band, The Embers and Chairmen of the Board will take place atop the hill on SCC’s Albemarle campus, located at 141 College Drive. The event, now being called the Summer Sizzle, is a free event and has activities for the entire family, including inflatables, food trucks, games and the Soap Bubble Circus.

“We’ve enjoyed celebrating our 50th Anniversary all year with everyone from alumni to retirees and students to museum guests,” said Jeania Martin, Executive Director of the SCC Foundation and event organizer. “Now it’s time to bring the community together and celebrate in a big way. What better way than to dance the afternoon and evening away with some of the region’s most popular bands.”

The main stage will be in the parking lot of the Snyder building and Martin recommends those attending the celebration bring lawn chairs. Parking will be available in all campus lots, with handicap parking available near the stage. Shuttle service from the lower lots will also be provided.

Food and beverage truck options will include Tex Mex, pulled pork, pizza, wings, hamburgers, hotdogs, seafood, carnival food items, edible cookie dough and homemade ice cream.
