December 14, 2023, marked a momentous occasion in Stanly Community College (SCC) history as North Carolina Representative Wayne Sasser (R-67th) presented a ceremonial check to the board of trustees, signifying an allocation of $21.25 million from the North Carolina General Assembly as part of the 2023-2024 state budget.

These funds, including two categorical allocations, have been designated to spearhead the construction of a state-of-the-art public safety facility to become the new home for crucial SCC programs, including Basic Law Enforcement Training, Criminal Justice Technology, and Emergency Medical Science. Initial plans outline the facility's location at the Crutchfield Education Center in Locust.

Notably, this allocation stands as the most significant single special allocation in SCC's history, a testament to the commitment of Representative Wayne Sasser and the North Carolina General Assembly to the college's growth and the betterment of the community.

Representative Wayne Sasser's instrumental role in embedding these allocations into the approved budget underscores a profound dedication to addressing SCC's critical needs. Despite the challenges faced during the legislative session, Representative Sasser remained steadfast in championing SCC's categorical funding.

Joe Brooks, SCC's Board Chair, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, "Representative Sasser's dedication and commitment to securing SCC's funding as a pivotal part of the budget exemplify true advocacy and leadership. His tireless efforts have empowered our institution and underscored the importance of investing in education and community growth. We extend our deepest gratitude for his instrumental role in making this opportunity a reality."

The allocated funds signify more than financial support; they symbolize a pivotal opportunity for SCC to bolster its infrastructure, expand educational offerings, and enhance its contribution to the community's safety and well-being.
