Among the winners of Wingate University's second annual Shark Tank competition on April 20th was Stanly Community College (SCC) student, Stephen Hammonds. The Mount Pleasant, N.C., resident claimed $500 with his third-place finish. He won a similar competition at SCC just weeks prior to the Wingate event.
Much like the popular television show, the Shark Tank competition gives students the opportunity to receive funding to take their ideas and turn them into business ventures. Hammonds presented his already patented invention of a TV mount for the healthcare industry that targets people with limited mobility.
He worked closely with SCC Small Business Center Director Tom Nunalee and business instructor Sam Spencer to create a professional pitch promoting the TV mount.
Hammonds plans to use the prize money to help develop a prototype.
