Stanly Community College (SCC) will present SCC SciFest on Thursday, April 24, from 4:30 -7:00 pm, inside the Patterson Building labs, located at 141 College Drive on the Albemarle campus. SCC SciFest is an official 2025 North Carolina Science Festival event presented by RTI International.
Geared toward elementary and middle school students, this event offers a unique opportunity for hands-on learning. It features a range of fun and engaging activities demonstrating how aspects of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) are connected to everyone's daily lives. There's something for everyone, from soap-powered boats to life-in-a-beaker experiments, plant pigment art to fizzy rockets, and even a digital dissection table. Best of all, it's a perfect spring break activity that is free to the public.
"We are very excited to participate in the North Carolina Science Festival again this year and share some fun STEAM activities with kids from our community," says Michael Lowder, Department Head of Life & Physical Sciences at SCC. "We'll also have a variety of live animals on display, including several arachnids (spiders, tailless whip scorpions, true scorpions, whip scorpions and camel spiders).”

As an official 2025 North Carolina Science Festival event, SCC SciFest is a testament to our community's commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). It's among hundreds of community-based events showcasing STEM activities for the citizens of North Carolina, demonstrating our collective passion for science and learning.
Since its inception in 2010, the North Carolina Science Festival has been a beacon of scientific celebration as the first statewide science festival in the United States. Each April, a series of community-based events (hosted by schools, colleges, libraries, museums, parks, businesses and other local organizations) come alive with science's economic, educational, and cultural impact in North Carolina. This year, we're proud to be a part of this significant event that has served over 3 million participants of all ages from all 100 North Carolina counties.
The North Carolina Science Festival is presented by RTI International and produced by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For more information, visit www.ncsciencefestival.org.
