Elementary Education Residency Licensure

Stanly Community College offers six courses to be taken over two to three years, focused on the pedagogy of teaching as well as preparation for licensure and certification. The program will meet the individual needs of each student while working in cohorts with other teachers in the same residency program.

Students are mentored and supported by experienced faculty who are licensed teachers and have years of experience teaching in the elementary school environment.

To be eligible for this program, individuals must meet the following requirements:  (1) employed or under contract for employment with a school, (2) bachelor’s degree (degree must meet the 24 hrs of gen ed required by NCDPI), and (3) 2.7 GPA

Overall, the program is designed to be completed in two to three years. Teachers seeking licensure can complete Stanly Community College’s residency program and be recommended for licensure in less than three years. To complete the program and be recommended for licensure, students must complete the following in their three years of residency licensure: (1) six courses (18 credit hours) with a grade of “C” or better, (2) required testing with minimum passing scores (Praxis Math: 150 & Pearson Reading: 229), and (3) edTPA (passing scores all three components, edTPA PA 13: 34, edTPA PA 15: 40, edTPA 18: 48).
