Stanly Community College’s Carolina Auction Academy (CAA) graduates and instructors attended the North Carolina Auctioneer Conference in Winston Salem, NC last month. In addition to hearing from international champion auctioneers, networking and educational sessions, attendees were able to participate in state-level competitions.

CAA graduate Randy Yost (Lillington, NC) won the title of State Rookie Champion, while CAA graduate Wade Messina (Jacksonville, NC) was named the State Rookie Reserve Champion.

With five judges, including two International Champions, a field of ten contestants were judged on stage presence, salesmanship, chant and their responses to a series of questions.  CAA graduate, and Stanly County’s own Bucky Hathcock was named North Carolina Grand Champion.

“We are so proud of these guys and the hard work they have put into honing their skills as auctioneers,” said CAA Coordinator and Instructor Betty O’Neal.

The Auctioneer Association of NC (AANC) business meeting held during the conference resulted in CAA graduate Kelly Williams (Cornelius) being elected President and CAA graduate David Bailey (Hickory) was named President-elect. CAA instructor Bill O’Neal was elected to the Board of Directors.
