Albemarle, NC – The Stanly Community College (SCC) Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Richard Lane Brown III Scholarship. The scholarship is for $1000 ($500/fall and $500/spring) for eligible students, and will be available starting the fall 2022 semester. Scholarship applications for fall 2022 will open November 1, 2021, and are located on the financial aid page at www.stanly.edu.

Richard Lane Brown III, one of the original SCC Board of Trustees, and an elected member of the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1971-1976, helped guide the College in its creation in the very early beginnings. Mr. Brown and the late Senator Frank Patterson introduced legislative bills in July 1971 that created and provided funding for what was then Stanly Technical Institute. Mr. Brown was one of the keynote speakers during SCC’s 50th Anniversary Kickoff Celebration held this past July on the Albemarle campus.

Since 1971, Stanly Community College has provided educational and career training opportunities to thousands of people across the region. Today, SCC serves nearly 10,000 students annually and has become a beacon of hope and change for countless individuals. To ensure that the College can continue this tradition of serving as an educational resource, the Foundation strives to meet and address the current and anticipated needs of the College and our students. When you make a gift to the Foundation, the value of your dollar extends far beyond one person or one opportunity. Your investment supports the future of our entire region, bringing the power of higher education within reach for thousands of people.
