Stanly Community College (SCC) hosted its annual Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society induction ceremony on Monday, March 31, at Central United Methodist Church in Albemarle. In recognition of outstanding academic excellence, the Alpha Psi Upsilon Chapter welcomed 61 new members in 2024 and an additional 33 since January 2025.
The evening’s keynote address was delivered by Cassidy Ball, SCC’s Small Business and Entrepreneurial Development Director, who shared her inspiring journey of perseverance—from overcoming challenges to earning scholarships, graduating with honors, and becoming Director of the SCC Small Business Center—emphasizing hard work, seeking help, and never giving up on your dreams.
Chapter officers welcomed the new inductees and shared highlights from recent service projects and campus involvement. Serving in leadership roles for SCC’s Alpha Psi Upsilon Chapter are Co-Presidents Kayleigh Faircloth and Lindy Barrett, Vice President Meghan Kumar, Secretary Savannah Jenkins, and Public Relations & Recording Officer Eowyn Allen.
For the first time in the chapter's history, chapter advisor Tanya Nicks honored the officers with Outstanding Officer recognition, and Cassidy Ball was inducted as an Honorary Member.
New inductees included John Ballinger, Makayla Barber, Rebecca Barnhart, Katherine Blackwelder, Isaac Branham, Justin Burns, Alexia Cagle, Chloe Carriker, Jordan Cooke, Jayden Green, Vincent Gregory, Rylie Hill, Jonathan Huntley, Shalynn Kanalley, Mackenzie Lee, Rachel Lothakoun, Kyeja Marshall, Ya’Mia Meadows, Hnuda Moua, Leanne Ortiz, Madison Parker, T’Yonna Pickett, Emerson Plowman, William Robinson, Emma Salyer, Cade Schafer, Celina Smith, Melanie Swink, Mai Vang.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held for inductees and their families and friends to celebrate the occasion.
Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is to celebrate academic excellence among students at two-year colleges worldwide while providing opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills.
At SCC, students are invited to join PTK after completing 15 credit hours toward an associate degree and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. To remain active members, students must uphold a GPA of 3.50 or above.
Established in 1993, SCC’s Alpha Psi Upsilon Chapter promotes a culture of scholarship, service, and personal growth within the college community.
