Overcoming Boundaries & Making A Way
There's a large population of people in North Carolina who believe they don't have the option to go to college or pursue their dreams. Access to Achievement changes that.
Stanly Community College has been selected by the North Carolina Community College System to be part of a state effort to provide inclusive post-secondary education, leading to employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).We now offer Access to Achievement, an individualized, job-focused instruction and workforce preparation initiative providing educational and career pathway opportunities to individuals with self-identified intellectual and developmental disabilites (IDD).
This initiative is created in partnership with multiple campus departments to improve access to education, including curriculum, trade, continuing education and basic skills programs. We also provide employability skills and micro-credentials for individuals with IDD.
Program includes assistance with:
- Decision Making
- Basic Skill Building
- Program Placement
- & More!
Our Access to Achievement Coordinator will assist in implementing individualized strategies to help students with IDD to be successful in academic programs. Our goal is to assist in opening doors to the workforce so our students can achieve life-long success.
To work with our Access to Achievement Coordinator, students only need to self-identify as needing services, with no requirement to have an official disability diagnosis.
