From Tassels to Tickets: Questions Are Answered Here.
Getting ready for graduation? This FAQ page answers common questions for students and families about ceremonies, regalia, tickets, and important deadlines.
Yes. Your graduation application is required for you to be graduated in our system,
regardless of your attendance at the commencement ceremonies.
While you will be able to walk across the stage, please be aware that your name will
not be listed in the program and we won’t have any name cards or cords waiting for
you at check-in. If you don’t submit a graduation application before attending the
ceremony, please make sure to do so ASAP following the commencement. Please bear in
mind that applications received after the graduation ceremony will be on the summer
graduation list and will not receive their degree until the end of the summer semester.
No. There are no physical tickets needed for the ceremony.
We ask that you try to bring in no more than 5 guests, due to space constraints and
fire code.
If seating assistance is needed, please let either the Graduation Coordinator, Shannon
Morales (smorales2972@stanly.edu) or our Director of Counseling, Linda DeJoseph (ldejoseph8285@stanly.edu)
know beforehand to ensure ample seating for accommodations.
Business casual or business attire is preferred.
You can purchase your cap and gown at our Bookstore, on their webstore. The bookstore’s
webstore can be found here: https://www.bkstr.com/stanlystore/home.
Sure! As long as both the cap and gown are solid black, you’re more than welcome to
use previously purchased regalia. Tassels and the date drops will be sold by the bookstore
and can be purchased before the ceremony.
Yes! We love to see graduates expressing themselves on their graduation caps! Let
your creativity and pride shine, but please keep it tasteful and confined to the area
of the cap.
Your tassel rests on the right of the cap until the president announces confirmation
of graduation. Then your tassel is moved to the left side of the cap and celebrating
begins!
The ceremony will be held at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center. The address is 26032
Newt Rd #B, Albemarle, NC 28001. Parking may be limited so please carpool if you can.
You can find the ceremony schedule here.
No. When you check in on the day of your ceremony, we will line you up with the other
graduates and give instructions.
Please arrive 45 minutes to an hour before your ceremony so your guests can find seating
and you can hear all of the instructions given before walking into the auditorium.
If you arrive well after the start of the ceremony, you may enter quietly through
the closed auditorium doors and find a seat at the end of the line of graduates. Please
keep in mind that if you and your guests arrive late, there may be limited seating
available for your guests.
Please attend the ceremony designated specifically for Early College and CCP students,
no matter what your major is.
You only need to attend one ceremony, and whichever ceremony you choose will be fine.
Please refer to our ceremony schedule at the above link for times and dates.
When entering the lobby, graduates head to the registration table. Your guests should
go ahead into the auditorium to take their seats.
Definitely! There will be an SCC backdrop in the lobby and, hopefully, a sunny day
for you to take ample pictures. We ask that you try to take your photos after the
ceremony so as to not unnecessarily crowd the lobby when first arriving.
Yes. While your parents won’t be able to snap some pics closer to the stage during
the ceremony, we will have a photographer capturing your walk across stage for you
to download after the ceremony.
We will post the professional pictures on our website following the ceremony. You
can right-click and save them from there.
No, there is a designated area for the graduates, and your family can choose to sit
anywhere else in the auditorium except that area or the area held for accommodated
seating. If one of your guests needs seating accommodation, please let us know either
beforehand or when you arrive. Small children must be seated with an adult or family
member in the auditorium, but not in the reserved areas for graduates or accommodated
seating, unless necessary.
Roughly 2-4 weeks following graduation and after the end of the semester, you will
receive an email from Parchment to your student email address including a link to
your digital degree. Your degree should arrive 3-4 weeks following receipt of that
email.
You can view the tracking progress of your degree though your Parchment account. If
it’s showing as in transit or received and you still haven’t received it, please contact
their customer support here - Parchment Support, or at 1-847-716-3005. We no longer have access to view the tracking of your degree
once it’s been mailed by Parchment.
No, all degrees are now mailed out directly to you from Parchment. Since we use your
address listed on your record, please make sure we have a correct mailing address
on file for you. If you’ve moved since submitting your graduation application, please
complete a change of information form (Information Change/Update form) and contact Shannon Morales (smorales2972@stanly.edu) to ensure that your degree will arrive where you need it to.
Please email the Shannon Morales, the Graduation Coordinator, at smorales2972@stanly.edu if you have any questions not answered here.
