Disability Laws as Applied to SCC

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) gives individuals with disabilities civil rights protection against discrimination, which is similar to that provided to all individuals on the basis of race, sex, national origin, and religion. The act guarantees equal opportunity in employment, public accommodations, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications. https://www.ada.gov/

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 states that, “no otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States…shall solely by reason of …disability, be denied the benefits of, be excluded from the participation in, or be subject to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance." https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/504faq.html
