NC Firefighter Trainee Stipend Program


The Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation Firefighter Stipends are intended to offset out-of-pocket expenses a student could incur in order to participate in training leading to Firefighter I & 11, NC Driver/Operator Pumps, or Emergency Vehicle Driver Certifications.

Award stipend is $500 per term (must reapply each term). Funds are disbursed to the student's college account to cover any expenses for the program/courses to cover instructional costs (books, materials, etc.) associated with the designated fire fighter training within a NC community college. Any balance of funds will be allocated to the student.

Eligibility requirements include:

  1. The student must enroll in course (s) required to achieve the NC Firefighter I & II, NC Driver/Operator Pumps, and/or Emergency Vehicle Driver certifications
  2. Student must submit a BCBS stipend application and submit to SCC's Financial Aid Office.

NC Firefighter Scholarship Program


The Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of North Carolina Firefighter Scholarship Program will provide scholarships for existing firefighters who want to advance their education in fire and emergency services.

Students in the Stanly Community College Emergency Medical Sciences Associate Degree Program can receive up to $1,000 per term (must reapply each term).

Funds are disbursed to the student's account to cover any expenses such as tuition, fees, books, materials, supplies, etc., associated with the program. Any balance of funds will be allocated to the student.

Eligibility requirements include:

  1. Hold an active NC Firefighter I & II certification
  2. Student must successfully complete courses covered by the scholarship in any previous term to be eligible for funding in a subsequent term
  3. Student must submit a BCBS scholarship application and submit to SCC's Financial Aid Office.
