A scholarship is a grant or payment made to support a student's education, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement. At SCC, we offer a variety of scholarships for both Curriculum and Continuing Education programs.
Curriculum Scholarships
These scholarships are intended for students enrolled in Associate Degree, Diploma, or Certificate programs.
Stanly Community College is pleased to offer institutional scholarships to help cover educational related costs for our students. The amount of each scholarship varies with funding being limited and subject to change. Scholarships are awarded for one (1) academic year and students are required to reapply each year.
Eligibility Criteria:

Anticipated enrollment for 2025-2026 academic year (July 1 , 2025 - June 30, 2026), a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester.

Students must be academically progressing if currently enrolled at SCC or considered a new student.
If Selected:
Recipients must meet all the requirements from the Foundation before any funding can be applied to their account. Students who do not meet the requirements will have their scholarship withdrawn.

Submit a “thank you” letter and photo to the Foundation by the due date.

Appear in person to a Foundation scholarship event or have received an excused absence. To receive an excused absence, you must submit your request in writing to the Foundation prior to the event date.
November 1, 2024 - Application opens
April 15, 2025 - Applications due for 1st round of selections by the SCC Scholarship Committee.
June 30, 2025 - Application closes for final round of selections by the SCC Scholarship Committee.
The Golden LEAF Foundation provides scholarships of up to $500 during one term for occupational continuing education students enrolled in a credentialing program of at least 96 hours. The scholarship funds are limited to tuition, books, fees, supplies, credential testing fees for mid-skills training courses, and childcare services and transportation necessary to fulfill student educational requirements. You must be a resident of one of the qualifying eligible counties and be enrolled in or plan to enroll in one of the participating community colleges in North Carolina.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be a North Carolina resident and reside in qualifying county.

Be enrolled in credentialing program of at least 96 hours.

The Robert and Jewell Lee Scholarship was established to provide need-based scholarships to residents of Stanly, Anson, Rowan, Cabarrus, Union, Montgomery and Richmond Counties in North Carolina and Chesterfield County in South Carolina, to attend Stanly Community College, South Piedmont Community College or Montgomery Community College.
Eligibility Criteria:

Must attend or plan to attend Stanly Community College

Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.3 (on a 4.0 scale)

Be legal residents of Stanly, Anson, Rowan, Cabarrus, Union, Montgomery or Richmond Counties in North Carolina or Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

Demonstrated need for financial assistance.
Application Requirements:
- Transcript of high school and/or college coursework and grades
- Statement expressing the following: “Describe your educational and career goals and explain what or who has inspired or helped shape these goals. Including financial needs, what are the most significant challenges you expect to face in successfully completing college? How will you overcome these challenges?"
- Completed Student Aid Report (SAR) from your completed FAFSA.

The Next NC Scholarship is a financial aid program that helps most North Carolinians from households making $80,000 or less pursue higher education by fully covering tuition and fees at Stanly Community College. The best part? It’s money that doesn’t have to be repaid.
The NCCCS Glaxo SmithKline Early Childhood Teacher Preparation and Residency program awards scholarships to students enrolled in:
- Early Childcare Workforce Certificate (C55820)
- Infant/Toddler Care Certificate (C55290)
- School-Age Care Certificate (C55450)
- Early Childhood Administration Certificate (C55850)
- Early Childhood Preschool Certificate (C55860)
- Early Education Residency Licensure Certificate (C55490) programs
This scholarship may assist students enrolled/enrolling in Early Childhood teacher
certificate programs whereby all courses (1) do not fit into an eligible two-year
degree program, (2) do not
meet clock-to-credit hours conversion requirements or (3) may not be Title IV aid
eligible.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Be enrolled/enrolling in one of the listed certificate programs.
- Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is recommended,
but
not required.

Continuing Education Scholarships
These scholarships are intended for students enrolled in our Continuing Education programs; a variety of classes for individuals that need training in their vocation or professional field, basic skills knowledge, or for those that wish to enhance their personal or community life.
Stanly Community College is pleased to offer scholarships to our Continuing Education students to assist in covering educational costs. Scholarships are limited to one eligible continuing education course.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be unemployed.

Applicant must be enrolled in an approved 96 hour course, at the minimum.
Award Amount: $150.00

SECU Foundation established the SECU Bridge to Career Program to remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials through the Workforce Continuing Education Division of their local Community College that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities. Launch your career in a high-demand field. The NC State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Bridge to Career scholarship offers $500 scholarships for eligible students enrolling in short-term, career-focused training.
Eligibility Criteria:
- U.S. citizen and NC resident
- At least 18 years old
- Not a director, employee, or family member of an employee of SECU or the SECU foundation
- Be one of the following:
- unemployed or underemployed
- member of the NC National Guard
- military veteran or spouse of a veteran
- underserved population in a specific workforce or area

The Short-Term Workforce Development (STWD) Grant Program is a state-funded financial aid program for eligible Workforce Continuing Education (WCE) students pursuing high-demand, family-sustaining wage credentials identified as N.C. Workforce Credentials at either the Essential or Career level. These credential pathways may consist of a single WCE course or a series of courses. The list of eligible credentials is available at https://nccareers.org/credentials.
Use of Scholarship Funds
Scholarship awards are determined based on student needs, local industry needs, number
of eligible students, and cost of course, up to a maximum of $750 per credential.
The scholarships help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing
tests, transportation, childcare, and other components of the total cost of attendance.

- Students must establish residency under the centralized residency determination process administered by the State Education Assistance Authority known as the NC Residency Determination Service (RDS).NC Residency Determination Service (RDS).
