Stanly Community College (SCC) is now enrolling students for its CNC Fundamentals course, beginning January 13, on the Albemarle campus.

This course is designed for individuals interested in learning the basics of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, an essential skill in today’s manufacturing and industrial fields. CNC machines are used to create precision parts for everything from automotive components to medical devices. Students will learn how to program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes using G-code, CAM software, and standard machining practices.

The class also covers safety procedures, machine controls, program editing, and part inspection, giving students the knowledge needed to produce simple parts by the end of the course. No prior machining experience is required, making this a great starting point for those exploring a career in advanced manufacturing.

Classes will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Brown Building, Room 1102. The course runs through May 5, with exception dates on April 2 and April 7. The cost is $330.50, and the course provides 93 hours of training (9.3 CEUs). It is also important to note that the class is transferable to the curriculum course, MAC-121.

CNC machinists are in high demand across North Carolina and the nation. This course provides practical, hands-on training that can help students prepare for entry-level machining jobs or additional advanced manufacturing coursework.
