Stanly Community College (SCC) is now enrolling students for its upcoming GMAW (MIG) and FCAW/Plate welding course, beginning January 26, on the Albemarle campus.
This hands-on course is designed for anyone interested in learning welding skills, whether looking to start a new career, strengthen existing abilities, or gain practical training for industry certifications. Students will learn how to safely set up and operate welding equipment, read basic blueprints, understand metals, and perform welds in several positions, including flat, horizontal, and overhead. The class also introduces weld inspection and testing techniques used in many manufacturing and trade careers.
Classes will meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Brown Building, Room 1125. The course runs through April 21, with exception dates on April 6–7. The cost is $290.50, and the course provides 128 hours of training (12.8 CEUs). It is also important to note that the class is transferable to the curriculum course, WLD-121.
Welding continues to be an in-demand trade in North Carolina and across the country, offering strong career opportunities in manufacturing, construction, fabrication, and maintenance fields. SCC’s training helps prepare students for industry-recognized welding certifications, which can lead to higher wages and long-term career growth.
