Stanly Community College (SCC), in partnership with local organizations, is offering EnviroStan (Environmental Services of Stanly County) this October. The program is designed to introduce participants to the essential environmental services that protect community health and enhance quality of life.

The course runs from October 2 to 24, with sessions held on Thursdays and Fridays. Weekly lectures will take place on Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Stanly County Family YMCA, followed by site visits to local facilities on Friday afternoons. These visits will include the Stanly County Landfill, Albemarle’s Water Works and Wastewater Treatment Plant, Juneberry Ridge, Albemarle Parks and Recreation, the Stanly County Health Department, and/or the Stanly Soil and Water Conservation District.

Led by Bryan Sharp, an enthusiastic instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience in environmental and biology-related fields, the course emphasizes the importance of ecological systems, the dedicated professionals who manage them, and ways individuals can better understand and support these services in their daily lives.

A minimum of 10 participants is required for the class. Students should have a valid driver’s license and/or arrange for carpooling to field sites.
