About the LIfT Program

Learning Independence for Transition (LIfT) is a specialized program at Stanly Community College created for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The goal of LIfT is to help individuals gain independence and prepare for the workforce or further post-secondary education.

Through the program, students build foundational skills in literacy, math, career development, self-determination, and social engagement. They also explore different career paths and gain hands-on experience in a variety of fields to help guide their future plans.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the LIfT Program, individuals must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Not be enrolled in the public school system
  • Identify as having an intellectual or developmental disability

Applicants must meet a minimum placement test score to be considered for enrollment. Continued participation requires students to show progress in the program.
Please note: Instructors are not able to assist with daily living activities. If a student needs help with eating, mobility, or restroom use, a support person must accompany them.

How to Apply

The LIfT Program will accept 12 students for its inaugural year.
After submitting an application, applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview and placement testing.
