Course substitutions are allowed in specific instances.  Examples include, but are not limited to, a change in the student’s program of study, career or transfer goals, higher level coursework, transfer course equivalencies, or elective selection.  Action upon such substitutions must be initiated by the student's success coach or program head/coordinator, who will forward the Request for Course Substitution form to the Dean or Associate Vice President.

Course substitution for individual Career & College Promise (CCP) students and individual students in Cooperative Innovative High Schools (CIHS) are permitted in exceptional circumstances and must be approved by the Chief Academic Officer.  Typically, these are only approved when a CCP/CIHS student changes pathways and has already completed higher level coursework with the same course subject prefix (for example, ACA 122 for ACA 111 or MAT 143 for MAT 110).

A maximum of five (5) courses may be credited for any student through the course substitution method.  More than five (5) may be granted with special permission from the Dean or appropriate Associate Vice President.  Notification of approval of course substitution must be submitted to the Enrollment Management Office.

“Request for Course Substitution” forms are stored on the SCC non-Eforms folder and are available from the student’s Success Coach.
