Real estate practice in North Carolina is governed by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC), whose “primary function is to license and regulate real estate agents.”  In North Carolina, real estate agents are licensed as brokers.  If you are interested in becoming a real estate broker, you can start your journey with Stanly Community College (SCC).

Your first step is to complete a Real Estate Provisional Broker Pre-License course, which SCC offers twice per year.  Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to apply to take the North Carolina Real Estate Broker Licensure Exam, which also requires a criminal background check.  Passing the licensure exam is the last step to becoming a provisional broker, a licensee who can perform all the duties of a full broker but must work under the supervision of a broker-in-charge.

To advance to the full broker status, a provisional broker must complete three 30-hour post-licensing courses within 18 months of passing the licensure exam.  After the first year of licensure, brokers must complete eight hours of continuing education on an annual basis.  Additional experience and training are required to become a broker-in-charge.

Stanly Community College would love to have you as a part of our Real Estate courses, from pre-licensure to annual continuing education opportunities.

Be sure to visit the North Carolina Real Estate Commission Education Provider License Examination Performance Record Report to view licensure pass rates for Stanly Community College and all other NCREC-approved education providers.
